Individual Telephone Billing System
The “Individual Telephone Billing System” is a microcontroller based system which will control the misuse of telephone in an office or any other place. To overcome the problem and to avoid the misuse of telephone calls and thereby stop any wastage of this useful technology, we have designed an electronic system that can to some extent provide telephone call security and avoid it being misused.
The system basically consists of multiple telephone sets connected to the single telephone line. Each telephone set is allowed to access the main line only after proper authentication measures are taken. The system is also designed in order to keep track of the calls made from the office with the help of microcontroller which will calculate the total tariff for a successful telephone call. Each person gets to open his own account such that every time he makes a call his account is updated to this new amount that he has incurred. In overall our system intends to reduce the extent of misuse of the telephone especially in government offices and in other offices.
The design consists of relays, DTMF and microcontroller with which monitoring and controlling all the outgoing calls from various extensions of a single telephone line is performed. In this project, only two extensions of a single telephone line have been used for simplification purposes. The user on any phone is supposed to dial the number password before he/she is given access to the external telephone line for calling purposes. There are two modes of operation-administrator and user modes. In the administrator mode, the administrator gets the power to create new users and they have the power also to look for the total tariff that particular user has incurred. They also can themselves get the main telephone line for their own use but only after certain authenticity measures taken. In the user mode however, the user is only capable to see his tariff incurred and get access to the external telephone line. The software on the microcontroller logs all the duration of the calls and also stores the duration of usage time to various users. Thus either it is administrator or the user to observe his own bill incurred.
